Temple of the Ages

"Some say that the stones themselves will rise up one day and rebuild the temple, and on that day, the gods will once again turn their gaze upon Kryta." - In game description

The Temple of the Ages has always been a popular place in Guild Wars. It was a place to meet up with friends or create a new party to visit the realm of the gods. While they were actually explorable areas, everyone treated them more like dungeons. This was because of the difficulty. You didn't have resurrection shrines and if certain NPCs important to the story of the area died, you'd be teleported out of the area. It wasn't free to get into them, either. A fee must be paid to the appropriate guardian of that god to enter his realm.

The temple itself was filled with statues of the all of the gods from that time period. That is to say, Kormir hadn't become a god yet in the in game time of the Prophecies maps. There is no statue of her in the first game's temple. It's not a temple in the sense that it's a building either, rather it's open air on top of a hill.

This makes its Guild Wars 2 location very strange. Despite being on a hill in the first game, the second game has it in a pit underwater. The Black Curtain's swamp has now flooded the temple and all of its statues aside from Melandru's. The land around it is also vastly different. More importantly, though, is that the statues are not really in their original places anymore. Grenth now sits between Melandru and Dwayna instead of Melandru and Balthazar. Balthazar's statue is now missing along with Lyssa's. Where did they disappear to? Now we can see Kormir's statue is in the line-up despite the missing gods. They may have moved the statues around to make room for hers, but then where did the other statues go?

Probably the strangest thing to me, however, is that Dwayna's statue has energy running through it. As a bit of background, when the world had the favor of the gods, the statues would 'come to life'. Balthazar's statue would light up in flames, Grenth's would freeze, Lyssa's would become golden, Dwayna's would be held upright in a pillar of light, and Melandru's would bloom and circulate water. When the world did not have the favor of the gods, though, Balthazar's and Grenth's statues would just appear to be stone, thorny vines would now cover the darkened Lyssa statue, Melandru's appeared to be just wood, and Dwayna's would no longer hold itself up in the light and would fall in pieces to the ground.

We know that the gods no longer have a presence on Tyria as they had before. Judging by the god statues in the rest of Tyria, the world no longer has the favor of the gods. Dwayna's statues, however, remain standing. In the Ruins of Demetra in the Harathi Hinterlands the Dwayna statue still has a pillar of light running through it. The unfinished statues in Malchor's Anguish are all standing as well but lack the pillar of light that is usually required for them to do so (perhaps because they are unfinished).

So if you're looking to find one of the only statues in Tyria that possibly denotes the presence of a god, the Temple of the Ages is a good place to look in the second game since it's easy to find and get to.

With all of this being said, Most of the pictures I have to compare are of the statues because of their new locations but there are also some that show the progression of the land around them as well.

Rebuilt Lions Arch - Postern Ward

"This is the future headquarters of the Guild Initiative. I'm afraid I can't divulge any more details at this time, but if you belong to a guild, you'll want to visit it when we're done." - Guild Initiative Planner

In the attempt to document the countless changes, we make our first stop at the Postern Ward. It's obvious from the crew standing outside of the building that this is going to be the future home of guild related functions. Not only will we be seeing the guild services we've had for so long but also the introduction of guild halls and it's likely that this will be the hub we purchase the rights to a hall from.

The newly rebuilt area resembles, probably more than the rest of the city, the Lions Arch we used to know from the launch of Guild Wars 2. The building is made from an assortment of ship parts, and resembles the original bank base in the entrance.

Also found was a venue that appears to have attracted a lot of couples professing that they want to spend their lives together. We can assume that this is, then, a place for weddings. Is it possible in the future that we'll see a Kasmeer and Marjory wedding take place here?

Lions Arch Map (Update)

"Beautiful isn't it? After Scarlet attacked the city, this statue was rubble. Now look at it. More glorious than ever. Just like Lion's Arch." - Aid Worker Sya

It's another wonderful patch day and Lion's Arch is looking better than ever. With a nod to what it was originally described as, the hub has taken quite some drastic changes. We at Project Tyria are working to document the changes and provide before and after images as usual. It will take some time due to the sheer size of the changes, but for now we can show off the newest update to the ever popular Lion's Arch Map gif.

Rebuilding of Lions Arch (Part 1)

"The port would be open to any and all, so long as they'll fight against Orr and help to keep the waters clear." - Cobiah Marriner

The Guild Wars 2 universe got some interesting news today. Lions arch, as we know, has been torn down and repaired only to be torn down again. It's been a while since the player base has seen any significant change from the aftermath of Scarlet's attack, but today we were surprised with an update to Lions Arch. Nothing seems to be in working order right now, but it does give us an idea of what's to come (like places concerning guild halls.)

There were a lot of visual changes as well, and I'm working to detail them as much as I can in screen shots for future reference. On the side, I decided to put together some screenshots documenting the changes between the new and old (including both original Lions Arch and Scarlet's aftermath). Here are just a few for now.

Queensdale Map

Queensdale is home to many Krytans. Known before as Divinity Coast, Watchtower Coast, The Black Curtain, and the Talmark Wilderness- it used to be dangerous lands full of swamps and undead.

Latest BWE Pictures Part I

As promised, though late, I have pictures from the last BWE. There will be one more Beta Weekend Event (BWE) before the game comes out. I'll try to get more pictures then, I have a few places in mind, but unless they release a new location, there will not be much. Of course, when the game comes out in August, I will be able to take more screen shots than ever!
As usual, I'm breaking my posts up into about two sets of screenshots. For now, here is the first set!

Beta Weekend Event 2 Pictures

Do we have a lot in store for you this coming week. This last weekend, I took about 30 location shots. While I won't be able to dump them all in one day, I'll try to upload new photos over the week until I am done. What I will also be working on as well, as I mentioned in the last post, is a map detailing key locations that might be of interest for those of you who enjoy the site.  Another feature I will be adding is a bit of lore or information under the pictures on their pages (not posts). I will go back and cover the older pictures I've taken in this with information as well.

I will have more pictures through the week, and maybe even a few times daily, so please keep checking back!

What Is Project Tyria?

What is Project Tyria?
I've always loved the graphic of the Guild Wars games and have grown to love the world of Tyria. There's nothing like adventuring through the vines of the Maguuma Jungle or trudging through the snow of the Shiverpeaks. Ascalon has evolved many times now, and a lot of Kryta is underwater. We were there in the before times, and now we arrive again in the after.
One of the things I absolutely adore are before and after pictures. Don't know why, maybe I like progress? But in celebration of the upcoming Guild Wars 2, I decided to do some comparison pictures to show the progress Tyria has made in the last 250 years. This blog is dedicated to showing those pictures off to the world!
If you have any pictures you want to add to the blog, feel free to contact me or post via our Facebook page: Project Tyria on Facebook. I will tag your name and even your GW related site to the pictures if I post them on the blog. I'm not only going to post my own pictures here, but anyone else who wants to join in to Project Tyria!
